What YOU Can Do!! |
|
Martin Luther King, Jr. said that this country is in trouble, not because of the bad acts of evil people but because of the appalling silence of good people. In this country we are constantly pointing fingers at the civil rights offenses that occur in other countries. The veil of silence and of racism MUST be lifted from what is occurring in our own country. South Dakota is a remote state with a population that is concentrated in only a few cities. Racism hides easily and no one pays attention to the goings on in a quiet farming state that is still treating people in a way this country has been led to believe was halted decades ago. Please Take a few minutes to go to the website listed below and enter the zip code below to reach the senators and congressmen in South Dakota. Then please go back and enter your own zip code to send the same letter to your own representative. This situation is a national outrage and only through YOUR VOICE will change ever occur. Drag South Dakota out of the dark ages and into the light of scrutiny. STOP Imprisoning Children, STOP Racial Profiling, CHANGE the Voting Distributing, ALLOW Prisoners to practice their faith! These are civil rights that our constitution guarantees to all who reside in this country. Put a stop to this archaic behavior of controlling and debasing human lives in our country. In just two minutes time you CAN make a difference. Don't underestimate the power of your voice! Click
here to write a letter: enter South Dakota zip code: 57770 to reach South Dakota senators and congressmen, then go back and enter your own zip code to reach your own. Make a national noise!! Take two minutes to make a difference! "the best thing a patriotic American can do is to look and be critical and find out what's wrong and try to make it better. That's what a patriotic American does." Interview With Andy Rooney on Larry King Live, Aired June 5, 2002 You can write your own letter or cut and paste this sample letter to each email: The treatment of Native Americans in South Dakota is an appalling embarrassment to our country. How can we criticize Human Rights in other countries and yet tolerate the inhumane treatment of our own citizens? This is not a third world country and I will not stand quietly by while people's children are taken from them for minor offenses, while Native people are targeted by racial profiling, while prisoners and incarcerated children are forbidden from practicing their religions, and communities control voting rights in districts that specifically exclude Native people from participating in a way that will make their voices heard. It is time to end this outrage. Sincerely, Many thanks to Native News, Indianz.com, Rob Schmidt from Blue Corn Comics,
ndn-aim, and the Lakota Student Alliance for their invaluable contribution
in collecting articles and information that makes the truth about Indian
Country accessible. Information for contacting them is found with the
articles listed in the Bibliography. Thank you. |
